Sheriff Regalado to Run For Re-Election 

Cites desire to build on positive changes 

TULSA, Okla. — Sheriff Vic Regalado announced today he has filed paperwork to run for re-election as the chief law enforcement officer of Tulsa County. 

Regalado was elected in 2016 after a 23-year career with the Tulsa Police Department.

“We brought change to the Sheriff’s Office and a new spirit of cooperation,” said Regalado. “I look forward to continuing these reforms and further restoring trust with the citizens of Tulsa County.”

Since being elected to the job, Regalado has played a critical role in re-establishing the Sheriff’s Office as a properly administered, professional law enforcement agency. He cited accomplishments like improving training for deputies and detention officers, upgrading in-the-field technology to improve dispatch times and accuracy, and forming a Cold Case Task Force to investigate dated murders.

The task force, staffed by retired law enforcement personnel, has already solved three crimes.

“That’s three families, three sets of friends, co-workers and associates, who now have answers and closure,” Regalado said. 

Regalado also noted among his accomplishments the reduction of deaths and suicides in the David L. Moss Correctional Facility, otherwise known as the Tulsa County Jail, and a corresponding drop in costly lawsuits against the county. 

In 2018, auditors with the American Correctional Association recommended a perfect score for standards compliance at the jail during reaccreditation. Auditors examined hundreds of issues like safety and security of inmates and staff, medical care, mental healthcare, food service, and policies and procedures.

As a former investigator with the Tulsa Police Homicide Unit and assignments that included the Organized Gang and Fugitive Warrants units, Regalado has wide-ranging law enforcement experience and qualifications. He was also a nine-year member of the Tulsa Police Department’s S.W.A.T. team.

Regalado has been the recipient of numerous letters of commendation, the Tulsa Police Department’s Life Saving Award and Medal of Valor. 

He is the county’s first Hispanic sheriff. 

In addition to his service for Tulsa County, Regalado is vice chair and sheriff member for the OSBI Commission, which oversees the state agency’s investigative and forensic activities.

He is also a board member of Resonance Center for Women, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society and Tulsa CASA.

He is married to Jennifer Regalado, a Tulsa County educator. The couple has three daughters.
